General updates
Dog adoption: There are over 25 dogs available for adoption at Domestic Animal Services including 3 extra large dogs, Junior a 3-year-old Bull Arab X, Bruce a 5-year-old Crossbreed and Biggie an 8-year-old South African Boerboel.
Lakes and waterways: ACT Health have commenced water quality testing at designated swim beaches.
Yerra Beach, Dulwa Beach and Nengi Bamir Beach at Lake Ginninderra are open for swimming with a warning for pet owners due to the Tychonema levels. For a full list of swimming areas and their status see water quality.
Road safety: Seatbelt detection cameras are coming from Monday 3 November 2025. They will detect drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seatbelt or not wearing one correctly.
Pests: The European wasp trapping program is now underway. Bees have started swarming in the ACT. Bee swarms are not usually aggressive and will go about their day-to-day duties unless they feel threatened or are under attack. Try to avoid the flight path of bee swarms and leave them to their own devices.
Repair works are taking place on parts of the Canberra Centenary Trail until Friday 31 October 2025. Locations include Spring Range, Black Mountain and Mount Majura. The trail will remain open but please follow any on-site signage and stay away from machinery.
Ecologists are undertaking priority threatened species monitoring activities in Kama Nature Reserve.

Crews have turned off the John Knight Memorial Park water feature and pond for seasonal maintenance work. It is due to be completed by Friday 7 November 2025. This will allow significant time for the pond to dry out to be cleaned.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Canberra High School, School Safety Program: Construction of 2 pedestrian crossings and a pedestrian refuge is complete. Line marking is underway and expected to be completed in the coming fortnight.
Kuringa Drive pavement rehabilitation: Work is underway to rehabilitate the road pavement on Kuringa Drive between Tillyard Drive and Owen Dixon Drive. From Sunday 26 to Thursday 30 October night works will be underway between 8 pm and 6 am. There may be minor delays. Please remember to follow the road side signage in place.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Inner North playground: Following damage to the public toilet door, the toilet has been temporarily closed while the door is fixed. There is no accessible toilet on-site until the door is fixed. The pickle ball court will also be temporarily closed from Friday 24 to Wednesday 29 October 2025 for line marking.
Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Construction works are continuing until the end of the year on upgrading Old Well Station Road at Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve.
Ready-Cut Cottage accommodation is closed until further notice for maintenance and repairs.
Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve is closed for rock climbing until Wednesday 31 December 2025 for the Peregrine Falcon breeding season.
Maintenance work is taking place from 24 to 31 October 2025 on the Murrumbidgee Discovery Trail between Pine Island and Point Hut. The trail will remain open but please follow all on-site directions and signage.
Sections of Gibraltar Peak Track in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve are undergoing maintenance works from 27 October to 14 November 2025. The walk remains open but there are detours in place for parts of the track. Please follow all on-site signage.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Fadden, Kambah west, Macarthur and along Erindale Drive.
Prescribed burns: A prescribed burn is planned for Pine Island on Monday 27 October, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire. Visit upcoming prescribed burns for more information.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
asphalt patching work on Coyne Street, Jackie Howe Crescent and Naas Road
litter picking on Athllon Drive and Sulwood Drive
maintenance grading on rural road sections of Smiths Road and Top Naas Road
street sweeping at Calwell shops, Erindale shops, Kambah and Kambah village, Tuggeranong town centre and Wanniassa shops.

Calwell District Playing Fields on Were Street, top dressing, fertilising and re-seeding

Kambah Oval on Laidlaw Place, top dressing, fertilising and re-seeding. These works are due to be completed in February 2026 to allow new grass to establish after renovation work
Wanniassa District Playing Fields on Sternberg Crescent, top dressing.
Trees: Crews are undertaking:
pruning and removals in Banks, Conder, Gordon, Hume, Isabella Plains, Kambah, Monash and Wanniassa
watering in Wanniassa.
Weeds: Crews are managing weeds at urban open space and shrub beds in Calwell, Gowrie, Greenway, Oxley and Wanniassa.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Sulwood Drive pavement rehabilitation: Works on the west section between Mannheim Street and the Tuggeranong Parkway commenced on 23 October 2025. Works have also begun on the east section between Mannheim Street and Athllon Drive to clean the stormwater inlets before road rehabilitation starts. All works are expected to be completed by February 2026, weather permitting.
Playground: Ruth Park Playground at Edgeworth Parade, Coombs will be closed for one day on Tuesday 28 October 2025 (weather permitting) for repairs and maintenance to the playground
roadside cleaning on northbound sections of the Tuggeranong Parkway (from Hindmarsh Drive) 25 and 26 October 2025, with lane closures in place on occasions
litter picking along Badimara Street, Dixon Drive and Warragamba Avenue
street sweeping at Cooleman court, Curtin shops, Mawson shops and Woden town centre.
Sportsgrounds: Crews will be at:
Melrose Synthetic Field on Marr Street, cleaning and brooming the synthetic surface
Rivett Neighbourhood Oval on Bangalay Street, top dressing, reseeding, fertilising the oval
Woden Park athletic track on Kitchener Street, mowing and edging.
Trees: Crews are undertaking:
pruning and removals in Chapman, Duffy, Rivett and Whitlam
watering in Denman Prospect, Holder, Phillip, Weston and Whitlam.
Weeds: Crews are managing weeds at urban open space and shrub beds in Chifley, Coombs and Phillip.
Darwinia Terrace bridge repairs: Work has begun on repairing the damaged area and is expected to be complete by early December 2025.
Molonglo River Bridge: Steel work installation for the Molonglo bridge deck continues.
Ruth Park, Coombs new toilets: The new toilets are open for community use. Fabrication of the artwork screening is scheduled to be complete by the end of October 2025. The screening will then be installed, with an anticipated completion in November 2025.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
