General updates

Key updates by region

Belconnen

  • ACT parks and reserves: Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve: Erosion control works continue.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • William Hovell Drive duplication: Concrete barriers are in place along the 4.5 km work area, along with reduced speed limits and traffic management measures. There is no pedestrian access at the current roundabout on William Hovell Drive, Drake-Brockman Drive and Kingsford Smith Drive. Pedestrian detours are in place to Belconnen Way, Kingsford Smith Drive, Murranji Street and Florina Place. There is no parking and no access to Kama and The Pinnacle nature reserves from William Hovell Drive. The Bicentennial National Trail underpass is closed.

  • Horticultural maintenance:

  • Trees:

  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Hawker, Higgins and Holt
    • Underpass, bus stop and concrete median weed management: Higgins and Holt
    • Serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass control: Across the region.

Central Canberra

  • ACT parks and reserves: Mount Majura Nature Reserve: Habitat improvement projects are underway, including revegetation and erosion control works.
  • Horticultural maintenance: Parks in O’Connor and Turner as well as Campbell shops.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Garden City Cycleway: Construction works are ongoing for Stage 1D of the Garden City Cycleway on Cooyong Street, Braddon. Lane closures and permanent lane configuration works have been implemented. A full road closure will occur on Torrens Street between Cooyong Street and Elouera Street from Monday 17 August until Monday 31 August 2026. Access will be allowed for local businesses and residents. Electronic traffic displays will be installed on Monday 10 August 2026. All works are planned to be completed by late 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
    • School Safety Program, Telopea Park: Major works, including the new raised crossings at Telopea Park, are now completed and operational. Some minor landscaping work will be competed over the coming weeks.

  • NBN upgrades: Forrest, Deakin, Griffith, Narrabundah and Red Hill.
  • Roads and paths:
    • Asphalt patching: Ainslie and Downer
    • Litter collection: Mugga Lane and Pialligo Avenue
    • Street sweeping: Braddon, City, Dickson, Kingston Foreshore and shops in Deakin, Griffith, Kingston, Manuka and Narrabundah.
  • Sportsgrounds: New goal posts are being installed at Narrabundah oval 1 and the seating area at Deakin oval 2 is being improved.
  • Trees:
    • Pruning and removals: Forrest, Narrabundah and Yarralumla. Works are also scheduled along Lady Denman Drive on Wednesday 12 August and Thursday 13 August 2026, with some expected traffic disruption after 9 am.
    • Young tree care: Campbell and Narrabundah.
  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Barry Drive, Captain Cook Crescent, Morshead Drive, Parkes Way and Sturt Avenue
    • Underpass, bus stop and concrete median weed management: Ainslie and Campbell
    • Serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass control: Across the region.

Gungahlin

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • Gungaderra: Stock fencing is being repaired in preparation for the Bushfire Operations Program grazing schedule.
    • Mulligans Flat: Track maintenance is underway and replacement gates are being installed.

  • Roads and paths:
    • Cycle path cleaning: Casey, Gungahlin and Ngunnawal

  • Trees: 
    • Pruning and removals: Amaroo and Ngunnawal
    • Young tree care: Casey, Crace and Moncrieff.
  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Katherine Avenue and Mirrabei Drive
    • Underpass, bus stop and concrete median weed management: Amaroo and Bonner
    • Serrated tussock control: Gungaderra and Mulligans Flat.

Tuggeranong

  • Horticultural maintenance:
    • Bonython and Fadden open spaces
    • Kambah, Oxley and Wanniassa underpasses
    • Monash playgrounds at Brain Street, Coode Street, Harkness Street, Nicolle Place and William Hudson Crescent.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Monaro Highway upgrade: Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays, both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane.

  • Trees: Pruning and removals: Gowrie, Kambah and Monash.
  • Weed management:
    • Alligator weed control: Tuggeranong Creek

    • Underpass, bus stop and concrete median weed management: Gordon, Kambah, Tuggeranong and Wanniassa.

Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

  • Horticultural maintenance: Coombs, Isaacs and Wright open spaces.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Molonglo River Bridge: Coppins Crossing Road between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue will be closed from 2 am Wednesday 12 August to 6 pm Friday 14 August 2026, with a weather contingency that may extend the closure until 6 pm Saturday 15 August 2026. The closure is required to install safety rails and throw screen barriers on the northbound bridge directly over Coppins Crossing Road.

  • Ponds maintenance: Silt and debris removal at the Wyndham Avenue retention ponds in Denman Prospect continues until Sunday 30 August 2026, weather permitting.
  • Road closures:
    • From Tuesday 11 August until Wednesday 30 September 2026, Forest Drive will be closed in both directions between Totara Road and Dairy Farmers Hill car park and lookout at the National Arboretum from 6 am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday as required for tree works.
    • Due to construction on the Molonglo River Bridge project, Coppins Crossing Road will be closed from 2 am Wednesday 12 August to 6 pm Friday 14 August 2026 in both directions between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue, with a contingency to 6 pm on Saturday 15 August.
  • Roads and paths:
    • Litter collection: John Gorton Drive and Long Gully Road
    • Path maintenance: Chapman and Curtin
    • Street sweeping: Woden and shops in Cooleman Court, Curtin and Mawson.
  • Sportsgrounds: Preparation works are underway for sportsground renovations at Phillip oval, planned later in 2026.
  • Trees:
    • Pruning and removals: Chifley, Isaacs, Waramanga and Whitlam
    • Young tree care: Holder and Weston.
  • Weed management:
    • Serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass control: Molonglo
    • Underpass, bus stop and concrete median weed management: Chapman, Denman Prospect, Duffy and Wright.

Rural

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • Booroomba Rocks Road: Closed until further notice due to adverse weather conditions. For more information, contact the Namadgi Visitor Centre on 02 6237 5307 or email namadginationalpark@act.gov.au.
    • Gibraltar Falls: Viewing platform and walking track closed while safety upgrades are completed.
    • Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve: Closed to rock climbers until Thursday 31 December 2026 to support peregrine falcon breeding season.
    • Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve: Minor works are underway at Sheedys picnic area, including the construction of a shelter over the barbecues. Please follow signage. There are barbecues available nearby and at Webbs picnic area.
    • Woods Reserve campground: Closed until late spring 2026 while facilities are upgraded.
