The weather forecast this week is the chance of rain which could impact some of our planned works and result in temporary closures within ACT parks and reserves. Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.
General updates
Bins: If you are regularly overfilling your general waste, recycling or garden waste bins, you can request an additional or upgraded (larger) bin. For more information see household bins.
City road closures and bus diversions:
Road closures and bus diversions will be in place for the Canberra Times Fun Run on Sunday 2 November 2025 (see NCA website and Transport Canberra website for more information).
The intersection of Edinburgh Avenue and London Circuit will be closed from 8 pm on Friday 31 October to 6 am on Monday 3 November 2025 (see Travel Impacts - Built for CBR for more information).
Dog adoption: There are over 25 dogs available for adoption at Domestic Animal Services including long term resident Wolfie who has been looking for his forever home for 150 days. Wolfie is a 1-year-old, loyal and playful Cattle Dog X who has plenty of training already under his belt.
Lakes and waterways: ACT Health has commenced water quality testing at designated swim beaches. Yerra Beach, Dulwa Beach and Nengi Bamir Beach at Lake Ginninderra are open for swimming with a warning for pet owners due to the Tychonema levels. Pests: The European wasp trapping program is now underway. Bees have started swarming in the ACT. Bee swarms are not usually aggressive and will go about their day-to-day duties unless they feel threatened or are under attack. Try to avoid the flight path of bee swarms and leave them to their own devices. If a bee swarm on government land is causing concern, complete the European Wasp, Ants or Bees Report form. If the swarm is on private property contact a swarm collector by reporting the swarm on the Amateur Beekeepers Australia website.
Road safety: Seatbelt detection cameras will be operating from Monday 3 November 2025. They will detect drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seatbelt or not wearing one correctly.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Kuringa Drive pavement rehabilitation: Work is progressing well with all works anticipated to be finished by mid-November 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
ACT parks and reserves: Ecologists are commencing field surveys at Mount Majura Nature Reserve to prepare for Ngunnawal cultural burns which will take place in 2026 and 2027.

Infrastructure

Griffith shops improvements: Public space improvements are coming to the Griffith shops. Preliminary planning is currently underway before design work can begin. A concept design will be shared with the community in 2026 for information.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Gungahlin region including:
Gungahlin memorial hall and condolence lounge: Construction continues with the walls and ceilings being sheeted, doors and windows are also being installed and finishing works to the main courtyard are progressing.
Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Construction works are continuing until the end of the year on upgrading Old Well Station Road at Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve.
Yerrabi Pond District Park lighting upgrades: Work will commence in January 2026 to deliver the next stage of upgrades within the Yerrabi Pond District Park. This stage of works includes lighting improvements along the path that runs from the corner of Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive to the Yerrabi Pond outdoor gym. It also includes the installation of lighting on the Easter Island walkway bridge.
Ready-Cut Cottage accommodation is closed until further notice for maintenance and repairs.
Red Rocks cliff in Bullen Range Nature Reserve is closed for rock climbing until Wednesday 31 December 2025 for the Peregrine Falcon breeding season.
Sections of Gibraltar Peak Track in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve are undergoing maintenance works until Friday 14 November 2025. The walk remains open but there are detours in place for parts of the track. Please follow all on-site signage.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway upgrade: Pavement construction works continue throughout the area. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. Both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane during off-peak hours on weekdays.
Sulwood Drive pavement rehabilitation: Works have commenced on the east side to open the drains to improve the stormwater run-off. After this, road rehabilitation will commence on this section of the road.
Darwinia Terrace bridge repairs: Work has begun on repairing the damaged area and is expected to be complete by early December 2025.
Molonglo River Bridge: Steel work installation for the Molonglo bridge deck continues.
Ruth Park, Coombs new toilets: Installation of the indigenous artwork screens is underway and landscaping works are being completed. All works are anticipated to be completed in early November 2025.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
