For after hours urgent public health matters including environmental health, radiation safety, food poisoning and communicable disease management phone:
The ACT Government is undertaking upgrade works and regular maintenance across Canberra to provide modern local sporting facilities for a variety of sports.
How we identify improvements
Capital upgrades to sporting infrastructure are prioritised after consultation with sporting peak bodies and local sporting user groups as well as analysis of monthly asset condition audits. Some projects, such as building refurbishment and irrigation system renewal/replacement, may be prioritised by asset condition audits alone if the structure is unsafe or no longer fit for purpose.
Types of upgrades
Female-friendly upgrades
The ACT Government supports women and girls to play sport at all levels. Part of this is making sure we have the right facilities available, such as changerooms. We are upgrading our changerooms to meet the Female Friendly Change Rooms @ Sporting Facilities guidelines (PDF 207KB).
Sportsground lighting upgrades
Some of our sportsgrounds are getting LED lighting installed. The high quality lighting provides better visibility to both players and fans. The extra light also means sportsgrounds are available to use for more hours each day.
Drainage and irrigation upgrades
We are improving some of our older ovals by increasing irrigation and drainage. This gives us softer and greener grass for more of the year.
General facility upgrades
We are also improving general facilities, such as:
cricket facilities (including new pitches or netting)
fencing around fields
parking facilities
general pavilion improvements including concrete repairs.
