Dryland ovals
Dryland ovals are community resources for informal sports and recreation. They are a great place to exercise, take the dog for a walk, let the kids run around or just enjoy the great outdoors.
As they are not irrigated, they are a sustainable resource that helps save water.
Dryland ovals are mown around 6 times per year depending on the season. They are also periodically inspected to ensure the surface is in a safe condition.
Weather can affect the appearance of dryland ovals. Like other non-irrigated open space areas, they appear green after rain and will brown off when it’s dry.
Dryland ovals are not suitable for organised, formal sports. They do not have facilities such as pavilions, toilets, change rooms, canteen facilities and match play lighting. The ACT is fortunate to have access to 880 irrigated sportsgrounds which can be booked for formal sports.
You can find the available dryland ovals in the consolidated dryland ovals list (PDF 194.3 KB).
