General updates

Key updates by region

Belconnen

  • ACT parks and reserves: Erosion control works continue at Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Gundaroo Drive cultural artworks: The installation of new cultural entry features and gathering circles are complete at the entrances to Owen Dixon Drive, Baldwin Drive, Ginninderra Drive and the McKellar wetlands.
    • Lighting improvements in Florey and Page: Installation is underway from Summerville Crescent near Tunney Crescent and through the underpass under Southern Cross Drive. All works are planned to be completed by the end of September 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

  • Horticultural maintenance: Shops in Evatt, Hawker, Kaleen, Melba and Scullin.
  • NBN upgrades: Florey, Higgins, Holt and Latham.
  • Roads and paths:
    • Litter collection: Drake-Brockman Drive, Parkwood Road and Southern Cross Drive
    • Street sweeping: Belconnen Bus Interchange, Belconnen Town Centre, Emu Bank and Hawker and Kippax shops
    • Road closure: From Monday 3 August 2026, Badgery Street in Macquarie will be closed in both directions at both ends of Blackman Crescent for Evoenergy works. Access for local residents will be maintained during the works. The closure will be 8 am to 4 pm daily, Monday to Sunday as required for up to one week.
  • Trees:
    • Pruning and removals: Aranda, Bruce, Kaleen and Whitlam
    • Site preparation for planting: Dunlop, Higgins and Melba
    • Young tree care: Belconnen, Dunlop and Melba.
  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Kaleen and Page
    • Roadside weed management: Hawker and Latham
    • Serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass control: Across the region.

Central Canberra

  • ACT parks and reserves: Mt Majura Nature Reserve: Habitat improvement projects are underway, including revegetation and erosion control works.
  • Horticultural maintenance: O'Connor laneways and parks.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Garden City Cycleway: Construction works are ongoing for Stage 1D of the Garden City Cycleway on Cooyong Street, Braddon. Lane closures and permanent lane configuration works have been implemented. All works for this stage are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
    • Kingston Cycleway: Construction has commenced on Stage 2A of the Kingston Cycleway. This stage is from Bowen Drive to the intersection of Eastlake Parade and Wentworth Avenue. Construction is planned to be completed by December 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
    • Lighting improvements: Installation has commenced in the car park at Deakin 2 sports oval on Makin Place. All works are planned be completed by the end of October 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.

  • NBN upgrades: Forrest, Deakin, Griffith, Narrabundah and Red Hill.
  • Road closures:
    • Commonwealth Avenue southbound will be closed from 8 pm Thursday 6 August to 5 am Friday 7 August 2026 between Vernon Circle and the Parkes Way off-ramp. For more information see Commonwealth Avenue southbound closure.
    • Sections of Capital Circle and State Circle will be closed nightly between 8 pm and 7 am until August 2026 for road maintenance. Please allow for extra travel time and follow detour signage in the area. For more information visit the National Capital Authority website.

Gungahlin

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • Mulligans Flat: Track maintenance is underway and replacement gates are being installed.
    • Gungaderra: Stock fencing is being repaired in preparation for the Bushfire Operations Program grazing schedule.

    • Amaroo Playground surrounds
    • Casey, Ngunnawal and Nicholls underpasses.

    • Street sweeping: Gold Creek and Gungahlin Town Centre.
  • Trees: 
    • Site preparation for planting: Casey and Moncrieff

  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Ngunnawal
    • Roadside weed management: Clarrie Hermes Drive, Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive

Tuggeranong

  • Horticultural maintenance:
    • Gordon
    • Bonython open spaces
    • Chisholm, Gilmore and Richardson underpasses.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • Monaro Highway upgrade: Pavement construction works continue throughout the work area. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays, both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane.

  • Weed management:
    • Alligator weed control: Tuggeranong Creek
    • Open space weed management: Calwell and Chisholm
    • Roadside weed management: Kambah and Wanniassa.

Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

  • Horticultural maintenance:
    • Isaacs
    • Wright open spaces.
  • Infrastructure projects:
    • William Hovell Drive duplication: Concrete barriers are in place along the 4.5 km work area, along with reduced speed limits and traffic management measures. There is no pedestrian access at the current roundabout on William Hovell Drive, Drake-Brockman Drive and Kingsford Smith Drive. Pedestrian detours are in place to Belconnen Way, Kingsford Smith Drive, Murranji Street and Florina Place. There is no parking and no access to Kama and The Pinnacle nature reserves from William Hovell Drive. The Bicentennial National Trail underpass is closed.

  • Ponds maintenance: Silt and debris removal at the Wyndham Avenue retention ponds in Denman Prospect continues until Sunday 30 August 2026, weather permitting.
  • Roads and paths:

    • Path maintenance: Curtin, Mawson and Phillip
    • Street sweeping: Woden and shops in Cooleman Court, Curtin and Mawson.
  • Trees:
    • Pruning and removals: Fisher, Holder and Isaacs
    • Site preparation for planting: Farrer, Mawson, Pearce and Waramanga
    • Young tree care: Holder and Weston.
  • Weed management:
    • Open space weed management: Farrer, Mawson and O’Malley
    • Roadside weed management: Mawson
    • Serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass control: Molonglo.

Rural

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • Booroomba Rocks Road: Closed until further notice due to adverse weather conditions. For more information, contact the Namadgi Visitor Centre on 02 6237 5307 or email namadginationalpark@act.gov.au.
    • Gibraltar Falls: Viewing platform and walking track closed while safety upgrades are completed.
    • Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve: Minor works are underway at Sheedys picnic area, including the construction of a shelter over the barbecues. Please follow signage. There are barbecues available nearby and at Webbs picnic area.
    • Woods Reserve campground: Closed until late spring 2026 while facilities are upgraded.
