Multi-unit developments

This page contains information for strata managers, building managers and executive committees of multi-unit developments (MUDs) with shared waste. If you live in an apartment or townhouse with shared waste, your building management must manage waste services on your behalf.

On this page

Multi-unit developments, sometimes called MUDs, include apartments, townhouses, villas or groups of houses that have shared waste facilities. Strata managers, building managers and executive committees are responsible for managing shared waste on behalf of residents in multi-unit developments.

Recycling and general waste may be collected in different ways at multi-unit developments including:

  • rubbish and/or recycling chutes
  • waste rooms or areas with bins or hoppers.

Green garden waste bins are available in some multi-unit developments and are allocated according to property size and type.

Food organics and gardens organics (FOGO) bins are available in some multi-unit developments in Belconnen and Tuggeranong as part of the FOGO trial.
