The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy with the chance of showers which could impact some of our planned works and result in temporary closures within ACT parks and reserves.Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.
General updates
Dog adoption: We have 29 dogs available for adoption from Domestic Animal Services. This includes 3 crossbreed puppies named after country singers (CoJo, Megan and Sheboozey). For more information see adopt a dog.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews are undertaking maintenance along cycle paths on Ginninderra Drive.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Belconnen including around Lake Ginninderra.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
asphalt patching and line marking work at the College Street and Eastern Valley Way intersection on Saturday 23 August and Sunday 24 August 2025 (lane closures expected)
litter picking on Ginninderra Drive and Gungahlin Drive
around mulch beds and mowing obstacles in Flynn, Fraser, Giralang and Kaleen.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Evatt shops improvements: The toilet is expected to be completed in the next month. The pedestrian path between the toilet and the playground has reopened to the public but may be intermittently closed as works are completed. Please observe any pedestrian detour signage.
Dunlop playground toilet: The preliminary design work is underway with the draft preliminary sketch plan being reviewed. Further updates on the design will be provided to the community shortly.
Pedestrian detours are in place and signposted along Charcoal Kiln Road for the Glenburn Heritage Trail Walk at Kowen Forest while forestry harvesting operations, truck loading and haulage takes place. The walk remains open but detours are expected to be in place until mid-September 2025.
The Red Hill Summit Track has been completely rebuilt, offering a safer, more accessible and enjoyable experience for visitors. The upgraded track is now open to the public.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews are undertaking maintenance along Lady Denman Drive and at centre medians in Lyneham and O’Connor. They are also mulching in Civic.
Mowing: Mowing is underway at Bowen Park, Lennox Gardens, Norgrove Park, Telopea Park and along main roads in the inner south.
Park maintenance: Maintenance is underway at parks in Lyneham.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Black Mountain Nature Reserve and Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Hopetoun Circuit safety improvements: Construction continues on road safety and pedestrian improvements at the intersection of Hopetoun Circuit and Adelaide Avenue, north off-ramp in Yarralumla and south on-ramp in Deakin. Changed traffic arrangements, including single lane closures of the on and off-ramps, will be in place for approximately the next 10 weeks. Traffic controllers and speed reductions will be applied accordingly during off-peak hours. Works will deliver new and upgraded pram ramps, crossings, kerb ramps, path connections, chevrons, line markings and landscaping works to improve pedestrian safety at these intersections.

Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Upgrade works continue along Old Well Station Road in Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve. During works the road is closed to walkers and cyclists. Completion of these works is anticipated by early 2026.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Athllon Drive duplication: The Development Application has been publicly notified for the southern section of the Athllon Drive duplication project between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive. This application includes plans of the road duplication and is now open for the public to provide written feedback by Wednesday 3 September 2025 by visiting the Territory Planning webpage. Works are currently underway on footpath upgrades between Drakeford Drive and Sulwood Drive.
Monaro Highway pavement rehabilitation: Asphalt works have recommenced on the southbound carriageway. All works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2025, weather permitting.
Monaro Highway upgrades: Substructure works have progressed on the Dog Trap Creek Bridge in preparation for plank installation. Works are scheduled this week subject to weather conditions.
Playground improvements: Rubber softfall replacement works at Kambah adventure park continue this week and are anticipated to take several weeks to complete. The junior play area remains closed during this time.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Mount Taylor Nature Reserve and Molonglo River Reserve, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Rabbit control: Rabbit control work is underway at Mount Mugga Mugga Nature Reserve and Jerrabomberra Avenue in Symonston until Friday 19 September 2025. Signage is in place to advise reserve users of activity and restrictions.
Molonglo River Bridge: Precast deck installation is underway on the southern side of the project.
Ruth Park, Coombs new toilets: The public toilets are open for community use. Screening and additional tree planting will be undertaken in October 2025.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
