Multi-unit developments are apartment buildings, townhouses or groups of houses that share facilities including waste and common areas.

Recycling and waste systems in multi-unit developments and apartments vary considerably. Some have recycling and landfill (rubbish) chutes, while others have waste rooms or enclosures with hoppers and/or bins where residents can dispose of their landfill and recycling.
