The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy with the chance of rain which could impact some of our planned works and result in temporary closures within ACT parks and reserves.Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.
General updates

Dog adoption: We have 24 dogs available for adoption from Domestic Animal Services. For more information see adopt a dog.
Trees: Crews are undertaking pruning and removals in Charnwood, Flynn and Fraser. They are also undertaking young tree care in Evatt, Kaleen and Lawson.
ACT parks and reserves: Pedestrian detours are in place and signposted along Charcoal Kiln Road for the Glenburn Heritage Trail Walk at Kowen Forest while forestry harvesting operations, truck loading and haulage takes place. The walk remains open but detours are expected to be in place until mid-September 2025.
Trees: Crews are undertaking pruning and removals in the City, Downer and Watson.
Weeds: Crews are managing weeds at shops and laneways in Deakin, Dickson, Hackett, Watson and Yarralumla.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Alexandrina Drive pedestrian crossings: Works are complete on the pedestrian crossings at Novar Street and Hopetoun Circuit. Landscaping is taking place to reinstate the grass.
Hopetoun Circuit safety improvements: Works continue at the intersection of Hopetoun Circuit and Adelaide Avenue. Changed traffic arrangements remain in place. Completion is expected in October 2025.
Prescribed burns: The 2025 prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Gungahlin Eucalyptus Plantation, Hall and Gubur Dhaura Heritage Park, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
litter picking on Flemington Road, Gungahlin Drive and Hoskins Street
Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve: Upgrade works continue along Old Well Station Road in Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve. During works the road is closed to walkers and cyclists. Completion of these works is anticipated by early 2026.
Ecologists are conducting crayfish monitoring in the creeks and bogs of Namadgi National Park.
Feral pig monitoring and control work is underway at Rob Roy Nature Reserve and McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Thursday 16 October 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Calwell, Kambah (east) and along Isabella Drive.
Prescribed burns: The 2025 prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve and Pine Island, subject to suitable conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

asphalt patching in Isabella Plains on Ellerston Avenue and in Gilmore on Edmond Close, Penton Place and Willoughby Crescent
maintenance grading in rural areas on Bendora Road
vegetation control work in rural areas on Boboyan Road and Top Naas Road
litter picking on Isabella Drive and Monaro Highway
street sweeping at Calwell shops, Erindale shops, Kambah village and Tuggeranong town centre.
Trees: Crews are undertaking pruning and removals in Kambah and Wanniassa.
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway pavement rehabilitation: The rehabilitation works are now complete with line marking underway this week.
Monaro Highway upgrades: Bridge girders are being placed on the bridge over Dog Trap Creek. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. Both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane during off-peak hours on weekdays.
ACT parks and reserves: The Cotter Campground is closed until Friday 19 September 2025 for urgent repairs to the toilet block.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Holder, Isaacs, Swinger Hill and Weston.
Prescribed burns: The 2025 prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Denman Prospect, Stromlo and Mount Taylor Nature Reserve, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Rabbit control: Rabbit control work is underway at Mount Mugga Mugga Nature Reserve and Jerrabomberra Avenue in Symonston until Friday 19 September 2025. Signage is in place to advise reserve users of activity and restrictions.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:

path maintenance in Curtin, Denman Prospect, Lyons, Pearce and Phillip
street sweeping in Cooleman Court, Curtin shops, Mawson shops and Woden town centre
Molonglo River Bridge: This week works commence on the placement of pre-cast deck panels using an 800-tonne crane. Precast deck panel installation continues towards the mid span of the bridge. Piling work for the south side abutment has commenced.
Ruth Park, Coombs new toilets: Landscaping and screening works commence this week with temporary fencing being installed. Planting and concrete footings for the screens will follow later in the week pending weather conditions. The toilets are open for community use.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
