Construction procurement is underway on Streeton Drive intersection improvements.
The ACT Government is committed to improving the safety of intersections. The intersections of Namatjira Drive and Heysen Street with Streeton Drive have been identified for safety improvements with accidents and congestion identified as two key issues at these intersections.
Over 20,000 vehicles use the road corridor each day between Weston Creek, Tuggeranong and Woden. Heysen Street and Namatjira Drive funnel high volumes of residential and commercial traffic to Streeton Drive resulting in both intersections becoming increasingly busy.
A feasibility study has been completed and recommended the installation of traffic lights at both intersections as the safest option for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, with concept designs completed in 2021.
This project is jointly funded between the ACT and Australian Governments under the Commonwealth’s Infrastructure Investment Program.
Key features
- Traffic lights at both intersections to improve the safety of road users and establish a smooth flow of vehicles and lower the risk of accidents. This includes signalised pedestrian crossings.
- Upgrading existing concrete medians.
- Resurfacing of both intersections with new line marking.
- Upgrading of footpaths and kerb ramps, linking the intersection to the surrounding path network.
- Landscaping at both intersections, including dryland grassing.
Current update
Construction procurement is underway for both intersections with an update on construction timeframes to be provided following the award of contract which is expected in the first half of 2024.
