Adopt one of our golden oldies

While Hades and Arthur have found loving homes, golden oldie Smudge is still looking for her forever home. We also have over 30 other dogs to adopt, so chances are we have your perfect match.

Meet our gorgeous golden oldies – Smudge, Hades and Arthur!

These are just 3 of our furry friends at Domestic Animal Services who are searching for their forever home.

Unfortunately, older dogs are often overlooked because of their age. But did you know there are a range of benefits if you consider adopting an older dog? Meet the crew below.

Meet Smudge!

Status: Available for adoption

Smudge is as sweet as they come.

She loves spending time with her favourite people – like a shadow that you can cuddle!

Smudge has the most fun when she is involved in family activities. For 8 years old, Smudge still has boundless energy and enjoys a daily walk.

With a few tricks up her sleeve, Smudge is no stranger to showing off, but she could use some help getting use to a lead.

In her dream home, Smudge will travel freely between the backyard and inside so she can stay out of the elements and cuddle up with her family!

One of the great things about older dogs like Smudge is that they’ve got all the love in the world to give without the cheekiness of a younger puppy.

Hello Hades!

Status: Adopted

You’re only as old as you feel, hey Hades?

At a lively 12 years, Hades is the oldest pup at Domestic Animal Services and he is in the market for his forever home.

This sweet gentleman loves to spend time with his loved ones – enjoying lots of cuddles of course! He still has a zest for life and loves going on daily strolls to sniff and socialise with other people and pooches.

Unfortunately, people overlook Hades because of his age. They do not take the time to get to know him like we do. If they did, no one could ever leave him!

Adopting an older dog often means they are house trained, like Hades, and are looking for a lovely family to snuggle with on a cold Canberra night.

Oh, hey Arthur!

Status: Adopted

Never judge a book by its cover, isn’t that right Arthur?

As he settles into his new home, Arthur will show you a love like no other. This sweet boy is a little reserved but with a little patience, you will see him flourish into a social butterfly. Arthur’s favourite things to do include playing with a ball (fetch all day!) and quality time with his people.

Because of their lot in life, older dogs like Arthur develop deep bonds with their new families. At just 6 years old, Arthur needs a little TLC to feel comfortable. But once he does, your bond will be unbreakable.
