F3 cat vaccine shortage

Earlier this year the community was notified of a shortage of the F3 cat vaccine in Australia. Unfortunately, the shortage is expected to continue for a few months.

Due to the current vaccine shortage, the ACT Government will not be proactively enforcing the requirement for adult cats to be up to date with their annual booster vaccinations when boarding at ACT boarding facilities until 30 April 2024.

The F3 vaccine protects cats and kittens against parvovirus and cat flu. It is considered a core vaccine, with boosters administered yearly throughout the cat’s life. It is expected that the regular boosters will be affected until the cessation of the shortage.

Vet clinics will be working with pet owners to prioritise those most in need of vaccination, with kittens and cats who have previously not been vaccinated being prioritised.

While science indicates that cats who have received regular vaccines and boosters are at low risk of infectious disease due to immunity duration, boarding facilities are encouraged to enhance their biosecurity practices at this time to minimise any potential for the spread of contagious diseases.

Cat owners are encouraged to talk to their vet if they are concerned.
