The weather forecast this week is partly cloudy with the chance of rain which could impact some of our planned works and result in temporary closures within ACT parks and reserves. Our planned works are outlined below. They are subject to weather and any required operational changes.
General updates
Dogs: Have your say on the draft Code of Practice for the Welfare of Dogs in the ACT. It outlines mandatory standards that must be met by dog owners and provides guidelines on how to meet these standards. Feedback closes Friday 22 August 2025.
Parking at GIO Stadium: If you’re driving to a game, remember to park in authorised parking areas to avoid getting a fine. Parking in areas such as footpaths, nature strips and verges is not allowed. individuals could be fined up to $440.
Illegal dumping: Compliance operations are continuing around Canberra, with surveillance cameras being deployed in areas where illegal dumping is occurring. Fines range from $500 to $1,500 for an individual and up to $7,500 for a corporation.
Lane closures: Lane closures are expected from 6 pm Thursday 10 July to 6 am Friday 11 July 2025 at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and London Circuit as well as at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and London Circuit. See the Built for CBR website.
Road safety: Whether you are heading out of town or exploring your own backyard, make road safety a priority these school holidays.
Shared e-scooter and e-bikes: The ACT Government is renewing its shared e-scooters and e-bikes program. Permit applications close Friday 1 August 2025.
ACT parks and reserves: Crews are undertaking serrated tussock control at Bruce Ridge and sagittaria control at CIT Bruce.
Horticultural maintenance: Maintenance is underway at underpasses in Holt, Kaleen, Lawson and Macgregor.
Kangaroo management: Kangaroo management operations are underway at Aranda Bushland Nature Reserve and Kama Nature Reserve until Thursday 31 July 2025. These reserves will be closed overnight from 6 pm to 6 am, Monday to Thursday each week.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with a planned burn in Ginninderry Corridor, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Shopping trolleys: Last week we issued 21 collection notices to retailers in the Belconnen region. All uncollected trolleys have since been collected and removed by retailers as requested. An additional 6 warning notices were issued for trolleys lacking the required identification.
Skateparks: Lighting upgrades are underway at Belconnen skatepark.
Trees: Crews are responding to community requests for pruning, removals and storm clean up in Bruce, Holt, Macquarie, Melba and Scullin. They are also providing young tree care in Florey, Page and Scullin.
Weeds: Crews are managing weeds along Barton Highway, Kuringa Drive and around mulch beds and mowing obstacles in Dunlop and Fraser.
Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Emu Bank foreshore upgrade: Investigations have concluded and the lake water level will rise over the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience while this work was undertaken.
Evatt shops improvements: Work is progressing on the installation of a new unisex accessible toilet at Evatt shops. Please follow signage while this work is underway.
ACT parks and reserves: Crews are undertaking serrated tussock control at O’Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge as well as treating moth vine in Mount Ainslie.

Kangaroo management: Kangaroo management operations are underway at Mount Ainslie Nature Reserve, Mount Majura Nature Reserve and Red Hill Nature Reserve until Thursday 31 July 2025. These reserves will be closed overnight from 6 pm to 6 am, Monday to Thursday each week.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with a planned burn in Black Mountain, subject to suitable weather conditions. Rabbit control: Rabbit control work is continuing at the Red Hill Nature Reserve until Thursday 31 July 2025. Signage is in place to advise reserve users of activity and restrictions.

Trees: Crews are responding to community requests for pruning, removals and storm clean up in Acton, Downer, Fyshwick, Griffith, Hackett, Narrabundah, Watson and Yarralumla. They are also planting trees in Ainslie, Braddon, Dickson and O’Connor.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Inner north playground: Final works including landscaping, mulching, and clean up are nearing completion. Murals will be installed in the coming weeks. The site remains closed to the public.
Kings Highway pavement rehabilitation: Line marking is underway and barriers will be installed over the coming weeks.
Narrabundah shops improvements: The installation of the water fountain is nearly complete including the associated landscaping and paving. We ask pedestrians to take care and follow detour signage while this work is being completed.
ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews are also undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. The Woolshed at Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve is closed until further notice for maintenance repairs. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.

Kangaroo management: Kangaroo management operations are underway at Crace Grasslands Nature Reserve, Gungaderra Grasslands Nature Reserve and Mulanggari Grasslands Nature Reserve until Thursday 31 July 2025. These reserves will be closed overnight from 6 pm to 6 am, Monday to Thursday each week.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Gungahlin Eucalyptus Plantation and Gubur Dhaura, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

The Hilltops playground in Crace (near Samaria Street) remains closed while the rubber softfall is replaced. It is expected to reopen by the end of the week, weather permitting.

The showers at Woods Reserve and Campground are out of order.
Mount Franklin Road in Namadgi National Park is closed at the Bulls Head picnic area gate. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place.

Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetlands Nature Reserve and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, subject to suitable conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Trees: Crews are responding to community requests for pruning, removals and storm clean up in Chisholm, Fadden, Gilmore, Kambah, Macarthur and Richardson. They are also planting trees in Banks, Bonython, Calwell, Conder, Gordon, Greenway, Isabella Plains, Monash and Oxley.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Athllon Drive duplication: Works are underway on detour footpaths between Drakeford Drive and Fincham Crescent. The footpaths will improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists when construction of adjacent community path (C4) improvement works begin. Further details are available on Built for CBR.
Calwell shops: Minor works to fix uneven paving is underway at the eastern end of the shops. Please take care and follow signage while this work is underway.
Monaro Highway: Construction works for the new Dog Trap Creek (Woden Creek) bridge continues. Temporary traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays both northbound and southbound carriageways on the Monaro Highway may be reduced to one lane.
Kambah district park: The junior area is closed from Monday 7 July 2025 while the rubber softfall is replaced. Works will take several weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Fadden Pines district park: Works to replace the rubber softfall commence on Monday 7 July 2025. The playground is partially closed for several weeks while work is underway.
School Safety Program: Construction is underway on the raised pedestrian crossings at St Mary Mackillop College and Taylor Primary School.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve: Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is undergoing a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving visitor safety and experience in the reserve. Possible closures and signage will be in place to advise users of any activity and restrictions. Completion of these works is anticipated by the end of July 2025.
ACT parks and reserves: Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek.
Horticultural maintenance: Maintenance is underway at Betsy Gallagher Park, Cotter Road, underpasses in Chapman, laneways in Holder and urban open spaces in Chifley.
Kangaroo management: Kangaroo management operations are underway at Callum Brae Nature Reserve, Farrer Ridge Nature Reserve, Isaacs Ridge Nature Reserve, Jerrabomberra East Grasslands Nature Reserve, Jerrabomberra West Grasslands Nature Reserve and Mugga Nature Reserve until Thursday 31 July 2025. These reserves will be closed overnight from 6 pm to 6 am, Monday to Thursday each week.
Prescribed burns: The winter prescribed burning program is underway with planned burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor Nature Reserve and Molonglo, subject to suitable weather conditions. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Mawson shops toilet upgrade: Construction of the accessible car parking space is expected to commence in mid-July 2025.
Molonglo River Bridge: Works continue on the bridge superstructure and new road connecting to the bridge. There are no planned significant impacts to Coppins Crossing Road.
Ruth Park, Coombs new toilets: Work is underway with the landscape architect to design screening for the front of the toilet block.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: Speed humps have been installed in Mount Taylor car park. Linemarking and sign installation is nearing completion with the car park expected to reopen this week.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
