Belconnen

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • Horticultural maintenance: Crews are undertaking horticultural maintenance at underpasses in Charnwood and Florey.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • guard rail / roadside safety barrier repair work on William Hovell Drive in Belconnen (towards Whitlam)
    • path maintenance in Evatt, Florey, Flynn, Fraser, Macgregor and Melba.
  • Street sweeping: Street sweeping is underway at the shops in Charnwood, Florey and Kippax.
  • Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Florey and Holt. Watering of young trees will recommence in the spring.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • shops in Spence
    • underpasses in Belconnen, Charnwood, Giralang and Kaleen.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:

  • Macquarie shops improvements: Public space improvements around the Macquarie shops were completed and opened to the public at the end of 2024. The drinking fountain remains fenced off while we wait for the water connection to be installed. This is anticipated to take another 6 weeks, weather permitting. The drinking fountain will be open in June 2025.
  • Gundaroo Drive duplication: The new section of shared path between Owen Dixon Drive and Baldwin Drive (including the underpasses) remains closed while landscaping works are completed. The southbound left turning lane onto Baldwin Drive is complete and open to traffic. The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.

Central Canberra

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at O'Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge for serrated tussock. The team is also following up on myrtle rust found at the National Museum.
  • Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at Kingston shops and foreshore, Watson Wetlands, Dickson Wetlands, Lyneham Wetlands and Glebe Park as well as collecting leaves at micro parks in the City.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in the following areas:
    • Ainslie, Dickson and Hackett
    • Campbell 5, Glebe Park, Lennox Gardens, Weston Park and micro parks in the City
    • Monaro Highway and Morshead Drive.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: Black Mountain, O’Connor Ridge, Kowen (Bulldozer Road), Kowen (Oaks Estate), Mount Pleasant and Pialligo. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Rabbit control: Work in open space areas is expected to continue in Symonston (weather permitting).
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Lanyon Drive, Long Gully Road, Majura Parkway and Mugga Lane
    • guard rail / roadside safety barrier repair work on Lanyon Drive in Hume and a section of the Kings Highway at Kowen
    • road resurfacing on McIntyre Street in Narrabundah
    • street sweeping in Ainslie, Barton, Braddon, Campbell, Deakin, Dickson, Downer, Forrest, Griffith, Hackett, Kingston, Lyneham, Manuka, Narrabundah, O’Connor, Red Hill, Reid, Turner, Watson and Yarralumla
    • path maintenance in Acton, Ainslie, Braddon, Deakin, Griffith, Forrest and O’Connor.
  • Road closures: See the light rail and London Circuit construction map for information about road closures in the city.
  • Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Downer, Fyshwick, Hackett and Watson. Watering of young trees will recommence in spring.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • arterial and collector roads in Ainslie, Braddon and O’Connor such as Ainslie Avenue, Macarthur Avenue and McCaughey Street
    • parks and urban open spaces in Ainslie and Red Hill.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:

  • Garden City Cycleway: Stage 1C of the project is underway between Angas Street and Majura Avenue. Minor traffic delays on Angas Street are expected the week of 5 May 2025 due to the finalisation of pavement works on the path. The path is expected to open in late May 2025.
  • Inner North playground: The installation of rubber softfall within the playground continues. Recent rain has slowed the work on the pathways, with work expecting to continue this week. Landscaping is beginning and open areas are being prepared for grassing. Most of the works are expected to be completed in May 2025. The playground will remain closed while final works are completed and to allow grass and plants to establish. The park is expected to open to the public in mid-2025.
  • Narrabundah shops improvements: The main works at Narrabundah shops were completed and opened to the public in February 2025. An area at the corner of Iluka Street and Kootara Crescent remains fenced off while we await the installation of the water connection for the water fountain. Once the water fountain has been installed, the surrounding paving and landscaping will be completed. This is anticipated to take another 8 weeks, weather permitting.
  • School Safety Program: The construction of new children’s crossings and footpath connections at Canberra Girls Grammar will begin in early May 2025 and be completed by mid-2025.

Gungahlin

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews will also be undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.
  • Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at bus stops in Palmerston.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Forde as well as community recreation parks in Casey, Crace, Franklin and Moncrieff.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Gungahlin, Crace Grasslands Reserve and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:
    • litter picking on Anthony Rolfe Avenue, Kate Crace Street and Nudurr Drive
    • path maintenance in Amaroo, Bonner, Casey and Forde.
  • Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Bonner, Harrison, Ngunnawal and Nicholls. Watering of young trees will recommence in spring.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • playgrounds in Casey, Crace and Palmerston
    • shops in Nicholls
    • underpasses in Nicholls and Palmerston
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Casey, Nicholls and Palmerston.

Tuggeranong

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • The following closures are in place due to the thermal assisted aerial control program which removes vertebrate pest species from the area:
    • The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Tuesday 10 June 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
    • Closures are continuing at Gibraltar Falls, Woods Reserve and within Namadgi National Park (Yankee Hat rock art site, Yankee Hat walking trail from Bogong Creek, Ready-Cut Cottage and a section of Square Rock walking track).
    • A section of Paddys River Road, near the Deep Space Tracking Station, has one lane closed until further notice for construction upgrades. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place. Completion of these works is anticipated by July 2025.
    • The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.
    • Crews are also undertaking:
      • in the rural area, grading work on Smith's Road and also on Angle Crossing Road
      • removal of a feral pig population in Issacs Ridge
      • storm damage repair work on Grassy Creek Fire Trail and Middle Creek crossing in Namadgi National Park
      • roadside vegetation treatment on Corin Road from Square Rock car park to Corin Dam
      • blackberry surveillance undertaken in Hume and Tuggeranong Stone Wall
      • monitoring endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Murrumbidgee and Paddys River corridors.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Conder, Macarthur and Wanniassa.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Googong, NSW. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths: Crews are:
    • resurfacing sections of Tharwa Drive and Norman Lindsay Street in Gordon overnight on Sunday 4 May and Monday 5 May 2025 (detours will be in place)
    • guard rail / roadside safety barrier repair work on Hambidge Crescent and Isabella Drive at Gilmore
    • road resurfacing on Monaro Highway at Royalla
    • litter picking on Tharwa Drive
  • Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Banks, Bonython, Gordon and Theodore. Watering of young trees will recommence in spring.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at:
    • underpasses in Chisholm, Gilmore, Macarthur and Richardson
    • urban open space and shrub beds in Chisholm.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:

  • Monaro Highway: Demolition of the eastern part of the bridge over Dog Trap Creek (Woden Creek) has been completed and construction works for the new bridge continue. Traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays Monaro Highway southbound (after Lanyon Drive) and northbound (before Lanyon Drive) may be reduced to one lane. Find out more about the traffic impacts.
  • Sulwood Drive upgrade: Line marking at Mount Taylor car park did not go ahead in late April. The car park will now be line marked in mid-May 2025 and will be closed for approximately 2 days during this work.
  • Glendale picnic area upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new picnic facilities such as tables and shelters at Glendale picnic area in the Namadgi National Park. The work will take a few weeks to complete and will remain open to the public.
  • Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new BBQ and picnic facilities, walking tracks and an art installation at the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. The upgrades aim to provide accessible facilities for the community to enjoy while also recognising the 2020 Orroral Valley bushfire. The Visitors Centre will remain open while work is underway.

Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo

Maintenance and temporary closures

  • ACT parks and reserves:
    • Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations. Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek. Boot wash stations will be serviced at Corin Dam and broom control will be conducted at Corin Forest.
    • The following closures are in place due to the thermal assisted aerial control program which removes vertebrate pest species from the area:
      • Stony Creek Nature Reserve and Hyles Forest (Cotter Pines) is closed from Thursday 8 May to Friday 16 May 2025 (inclusive)
      • Molonglo River Reserve is closed from Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May 2025 (inclusive).
  • Dog parks: Duffy dog park is closed for one day on Monday 5 May 2025 for weed spraying (weather permitting).
  • Horticultural maintenance: Pruning is underway at urban open spaces in Stirling and Rivett.
  • Mowing: Mowing is underway in Farrer, Mawson and Swinger Hill.
  • Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
  • Roads and paths:
    • cleaning cycle paths in Coombs, Denman Prospect, Weston and Wright
    • litter picking on Namatjira Drive and Uriarra Road
    • guard rail / roadside safety barrier repair work on Tuggeranong Parkway near Curtin
    • street sweeping in Hughes and Garran
    • path maintenance in Curtin
    • repairs are continuing on Darwinia Terrace in Rivett
    • section of the walking track near Buntine Crescent in Isaacs is closed for maintenance from Wednesday 7 May 2025
    • Melrose Drive underpass repair work is nearing completion with southbound lanes now open.
  • Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Chifley, Curtin and Deakin. Autumn planting will involve 115 trees in Chapman, Chifley, Curtin, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Pearce, Rivett, Torrens, Weston and Waramanga. Another 155 young trees will be planted in Coombs, Denman Prospect, Whitlam and Wright. Watering of young trees will recommence in spring.
  • Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at underpasses, urban open space and shrub beds in Phillip and Weston.

Infrastructure

There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Woden, Weston Creek and Molonglo region including:

  • Mawson shops toilet upgrade: Construction works are progressing. The temporary toilets in the car park have had issues with the lights working intermittently. The electrical contractor is investigating the issue and it should be resolved shortly.
  • Molonglo River Bridge: Coppins Crossing Road remains closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. Lifting of steel girders onto the bridge structure of the northern side continues. This closure allows for girders to be safely lifted into place by a 1,600 tonne capacity crane.
  • Stormwater network improvements: Stormwater repair works will soon get underway on Corinna Street in Phillip. Signage will be installed to notify the community and pedestrians and road users may need to take detours. Repair works are expected to be complete in mid-2025.
  • Streeton Drive intersection improvements: A lane closure will be in place at Streeton Drive for line marking and rectification works.
