General updates
Death cap mushrooms: Inspections and removals continue with 20 mushrooms removed in the week ending 25 April 2025.
Election signage: The targeting of non-compliant electoral advertising signs is continuing with 62 breaches identified and 33 fallen signs collected. From these identified breaches, 15 warning notices and 5 infringements have been issued.
Illegal dumping: Compliance operations are continuing around Canberra, with surveillance cameras being deployed in areas where illegal dumping is occurring. Fines range from $500 to $1,500 for an individual and up to $7,500 for a corporation.
Libraries: Lift replacement works are underway at Belconnen, Tuggeranong and Woden libraries.
Playgrounds:
All water play items will be turned off by Thursday 15 May 2025 for the winter period.

Road closures:
Coppins Crossing Road remains closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue until 6 pm on Saturday 17 May 2025 due to construction of the Molonglo River Bridge.

Water testing at recreation areas: Weekly bacteria and blue-green algae monitoring has ceased for the season due to cold water temperatures and will resume in September.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Belconnen region including:
Macquarie shops improvements: Public space improvements around the Macquarie shops were completed and opened to the public at the end of 2024. The drinking fountain remains fenced off while we wait for the water connection to be installed. This is anticipated to take another 6 weeks, weather permitting. The drinking fountain will be open in June 2025.
Gundaroo Drive duplication: The new section of shared path between Owen Dixon Drive and Baldwin Drive (including the underpasses) remains closed while landscaping works are completed. The southbound left turning lane onto Baldwin Drive is complete and open to traffic. The speed limit remains at 60 km/h between Chuculba Crescent and Baldwin Drive to ensure worker safety.
ACT parks and reserves: Chemical treatment of Blackberry and St John’s Wort is taking place at Red Hill. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at O'Connor Ridge and Lyneham Ridge for serrated tussock. The team is also following up on myrtle rust found at the National Museum.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at Kingston shops and foreshore, Watson Wetlands, Dickson Wetlands, Lyneham Wetlands and Glebe Park as well as collecting leaves at micro parks in the City.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in the following areas:
Ainslie, Dickson and Hackett
Campbell 5, Glebe Park, Lennox Gardens, Weston Park and micro parks in the City
Monaro Highway and Morshead Drive.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: Black Mountain, O’Connor Ridge, Kowen (Bulldozer Road), Kowen (Oaks Estate), Mount Pleasant and Pialligo. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Rabbit control: Work in open space areas is expected to continue in Symonston (weather permitting).

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Central Canberra region including:
Garden City Cycleway: Stage 1C of the project is underway between Angas Street and Majura Avenue. Minor traffic delays on Angas Street are expected the week of 5 May 2025 due to the finalisation of pavement works on the path. The path is expected to open in late May 2025.
Inner North playground: The installation of rubber softfall within the playground continues. Recent rain has slowed the work on the pathways, with work expecting to continue this week. Landscaping is beginning and open areas are being prepared for grassing. Most of the works are expected to be completed in May 2025. The playground will remain closed while final works are completed and to allow grass and plants to establish. The park is expected to open to the public in mid-2025.
Narrabundah shops improvements: The main works at Narrabundah shops were completed and opened to the public in February 2025. An area at the corner of Iluka Street and Kootara Crescent remains fenced off while we await the installation of the water connection for the water fountain. Once the water fountain has been installed, the surrounding paving and landscaping will be completed. This is anticipated to take another 8 weeks, weather permitting.
School Safety Program: The construction of new children’s crossings and footpath connections at Canberra Girls Grammar will begin in early May 2025 and be completed by mid-2025.
ACT parks and reserves: Landscaping works are continuing at Budjan Galindji Grasslands Nature Reserve. Crews will also be undertaking vegetation management works to improve access along management trails at Little Mulligans in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve. Active surveillance, monitoring and controlling has commenced at Mitchell near Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve for serrated tussock.
Horticultural maintenance: Crews will be undertaking maintenance at bus stops in Palmerston.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Forde as well as community recreation parks in Casey, Crace, Franklin and Moncrieff.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Gungahlin, Crace Grasslands Reserve and Gubur Dhaura over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.
Roads and paths: Crews are undertaking:

The annual 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program is underway until Tuesday 10 June 2025. It targets wild dogs, foxes and feral pigs in various areas of Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River Corridor. All areas will be clearly indicated with warning signs.
A section of Paddys River Road, near the Deep Space Tracking Station, has one lane closed until further notice for construction upgrades. Please follow any traffic arrangements in place. Completion of these works is anticipated by July 2025.
The showers at Woods Reserve campground are unavailable until further notice. Guests with confirmed bookings will be notified and given options for a refund and cancellation, a refund of the cost difference, or the option to move to another campsite.

Mowing: Mowing is underway in Conder, Macarthur and Wanniassa.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct the following prescribed burns over the next couple of months as part of the annual program: McQuoids Hill Nature Reserve, Urambi Hills, Jerrabomberra Grasslands Reserve (east and west), Jerrabomberra Wetland Reserve, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Googong, NSW. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Infrastructure
There are a number of infrastructure projects currently underway in the Tuggeranong region including:
Monaro Highway: Demolition of the eastern part of the bridge over Dog Trap Creek (Woden Creek) has been completed and construction works for the new bridge continue. Traffic lights are in place northbound at the intersection of Monaro Highway and Lanyon Drive. During off-peak hours on weekdays Monaro Highway southbound (after Lanyon Drive) and northbound (before Lanyon Drive) may be reduced to one lane. Find out more about the traffic impacts.
Sulwood Drive upgrade: Line marking at Mount Taylor car park did not go ahead in late April. The car park will now be line marked in mid-May 2025 and will be closed for approximately 2 days during this work.
Glendale picnic area upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new picnic facilities such as tables and shelters at Glendale picnic area in the Namadgi National Park. The work will take a few weeks to complete and will remain open to the public.
Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre upgrades: Work is underway to upgrade and install new BBQ and picnic facilities, walking tracks and an art installation at the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. The upgrades aim to provide accessible facilities for the community to enjoy while also recognising the 2020 Orroral Valley bushfire. The Visitors Centre will remain open while work is underway.
Murrays Corner recreation area and Bullen Pines are closed to undertake forestry operations. Ecologists are monitoring populations of endangered Murrumbidgee Bossiaea (Bossiaea grayi) in the Molonglo River corridors. They are also conducting rapid assessments of riparian areas on rural leases and reserves across the western boundary of the Molonglo Valley and Weston Creek. Boot wash stations will be serviced at Corin Dam and broom control will be conducted at Corin Forest.
Stony Creek Nature Reserve and Hyles Forest (Cotter Pines) is closed from Thursday 8 May to Friday 16 May 2025 (inclusive)
Molonglo River Reserve is closed from Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May 2025 (inclusive).
Dog parks: Duffy dog park is closed for one day on Monday 5 May 2025 for weed spraying (weather permitting).
Horticultural maintenance: Pruning is underway at urban open spaces in Stirling and Rivett.
Mowing: Mowing is underway in Farrer, Mawson and Swinger Hill.
Prescribed burns: Subject to suitable weather conditions, ACT Parks and Conservation will conduct prescribed burns in Denman Prospect, Mount Taylor and Molonglo over the next couple of months as part of the annual program. The community may see an increase in smoke and emergency service vehicles in these areas but is asked not to call emergency triple-zero (000) unless they see an unattended fire.

Trees: Crews are responding to jobs including pruning in Chifley, Curtin and Deakin. Autumn planting will involve 115 trees in Chapman, Chifley, Curtin, Duffy, Fisher, Holder, Pearce, Rivett, Torrens, Weston and Waramanga. Another 155 young trees will be planted in Coombs, Denman Prospect, Whitlam and Wright. Watering of young trees will recommence in spring.
Weeds: Crews are spraying weeds at underpasses, urban open space and shrub beds in Phillip and Weston.
Mawson shops toilet upgrade: Construction works are progressing. The temporary toilets in the car park have had issues with the lights working intermittently. The electrical contractor is investigating the issue and it should be resolved shortly.
Molonglo River Bridge: Coppins Crossing Road remains closed between Holborow Avenue and Hazel Hawke Avenue. Lifting of steel girders onto the bridge structure of the northern side continues. This closure allows for girders to be safely lifted into place by a 1,600 tonne capacity crane.
Stormwater network improvements: Stormwater repair works will soon get underway on Corinna Street in Phillip. Signage will be installed to notify the community and pedestrians and road users may need to take detours. Repair works are expected to be complete in mid-2025.
Arterial roads are litter picked approximately every 4 weeks. Main roads are also regularly inspected within this period to identify and program the removal of larger litter items.
Barbecues are cleaned twice a week between September and April and once a week for the rest of the year. We manage 125 barbecues across Canberra.
Graffiti is removed within 5 business days of being reported and within one business day if offensive. To report graffiti please go to Fix My Street.
Lakes and waterways adjacent to town and district parks are checked for litter each week. Urban lakes and ponds are litter picked a minimum of 5-6 times a year. There are over 160 urban lakes and ponds around Canberra. Reports of excess litter or illegal dumping are prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
Playgrounds are routinely inspected. We manage over 500 playgrounds across Canberra including:
district playgrounds (e.g. Lake Ginninderra) which are inspected twice per week
central community playgrounds (e.g. Crace) which are inspected every week
local neighbourhood playgrounds (e.g. Duffy) which are inspected every fortnight.
Public land around shopping centres is routinely cleaned. We manage 90 shopping centres across Canberra and clean them as follows:
town centres (e.g. Woden) and group centres (e.g. Dickson) are cleaned daily
local shops (e.g. Fisher) vary in cleaning from daily to 3 times a week.
Public toilets are cleaned at least once daily. Additionally, reactive cleaning and maintenance is undertaken as required. We manage over 70 toilets across Canberra.
Trees under 3 years of age in non‑irrigated areas are generally watered monthly from November to April.
