Both microchipping and registration are compulsory in the ACT. Microchipping establishes pet identity for life. Annual registration establishes current pet ownership. Combined these help reunite lost pets with their families.
Annual dog registration
Dog owners must renew their dog’s registration details annually. This is free of charge.
Keeping dog registration details up to date means Domestic Animal Services can return lost dogs to their owners as quickly as possible and follow up on reports of dangerous dogs or dog attacks. It also provides better information about where dogs live so that education activities can be better targeted.
Cancel your dog's registration if you have moved interstate, your dog has passed away or you no longer own the dog. Select 'cancel' on the pet registration form.
Dog registration is compulsory in the ACT for all dogs over the age of 8 weeks old, who have been in the ACT for 28 days or more and have a keeper who has been a resident of the ACT for 28 days or more.
Pet services are now a part of the ACT Digital Account. This means you can register your pet, pay online, renew, update or change your pet’s registration details through your existing online account. You can also update your personal details whenever circumstances change.
If you don’t already have an ACT Digital Account, you can create one at www.myaccount.act.gov.au
